the 25th tooth

At twenty-one my twenty-fifth tooth grew in. My wonderful wisdom tooth began poking its way out of my upper left gum on a weekend in October while my boyfriend was visiting. One's first wisdom tooth should be one's 29th tooth, but I was born without two of my permenent teeth (the bottom set) and I had the two matching top teeth pulled as part of my extensive orthodontic treatment.

I have had braces twice. One of my two (top) front teeth grew in sideways (perpendicular to how it was supposed to be), so my first set of braces, donned while I was in 6th grade, covered only my four top front teeth, and were to cosmetically fix them. My second set, in high school, went on all of both top and bottom teeth, and were to reposition everything.
