[What is the Bared webring?] [Webring requirements] [Submit a site] [Edit your site info]
When I first put my journal online, it contained only two entries, and those were memories and past events. However, I believe that writing is not validated unless read by someone who would normally not read it. This meant I had to get traffic. I thought the best way to do that would be through webrings. But I had a nasty surprise. They all had conditions. My journal had to have more than seven entries, it had to be updated once a week and there had to be clearly marked archives. I looked at all this and thought, "Who are they to limit me in this way? This is my soul I'm baring. They can't tell me how to do that."
They can and they had. But I didn't see any reason why I should put up with it. So I joined a few webrings with less stringent requirements than the rest, and started plotting my way around the system, scheming to put an end to the suppression of soul-baring on the internet, in any form the writer feels appropriate. I made my own webring. I made Bared.
Diana of Episode
Bared founderOn Halloween of 1999, Rachel of Rachel's Daily Diary took over maintenance of the ring. She attempted to keep the initial spirit unchanged. As of 2 August 2000, Bared is led by Mystifyd of watering graves.
The Bared webring is a collection of sites that bare the souls of their owners. The ring is not limited to journal sites, although that is what it is made to cater for. It can also include sites of poetry, writing, artwork and anything else that was created to express emotions and record feelings. It is intended to bring together all those people on the internet who want to share a little of their inner being, and seek a like-minded group of individuals to share with. It's a place of refuge for all those who refuse to allow limitations to be placed upon the baring of their soul.
- A webpage. This really is essential. If you don't have a webpage, but want to be part of the webring, get yourself some free webspace from Geocities or Fortunecity. There are hundreds of other free webspace providers as well. Search on Yahoo! for some other options. If you need any help with your HTML programming, you should feel free to ask me.
- An expression of your feelings and thoughts in that webpage. It can be written, or drawn, or even music. I want to stress again that this is NOT merely a journal ring, but a ring of personal expression. I will not limit the method you choose to bare your soul.
- A desire to share this expression with others.
That's it. There's no need to update your page. You can make it and leave it, forget it, refuse to acknowledge it. On the other hand, you can add three new items a day, if you wish. It can be under a fake name. You can have as many or as few entries as you like. I don't mind if you've been keeping a journal since 1990 and have 943 entries in your journal, in no particular order. I don't mind if you have only two entries so far in your journal. I don't mind if your journal has one entry and that's dated 1987. I don't mind if your site contains one page containing one picture. And I don't mind if you're a member of 15 other webrings. It's your soul, it's your expression, and I respect that.
I do, however, mind if your webpage contains nothing personal in it. If it is merely a collection of links, advertising, or pornography, it will not be allowed into the ring. (I will not enter into a debate about whether or not sexual material is soul-baring or not. If I decide it's unacceptable, then you will not be admitted. However, sites containing material (written or visual) of a sexually explicit nature may be admitted if I find the material to be in the spirit of the webring.)
Great. Can't wait to let you into this ring so you can share with others. First, however, make sure you accept all the requirements above. I can't think that you'd have any problems, but if you do, please e-mail me and let me know.
Once you've filled out the form below, you'll get an email with more instructions. There's nothing very hard, just a section of HTML to add to your webpage. No images to copy, no numbers to change. Just cut and paste. If you lose the html fragment somehow, don't fret. Just email me and I'll send you another copy of it, personalised and ready to cut and paste.
Now all that remains is for you to fill the form out:
There are two sorts of html fragments, because people have different tastes. There is a graphics version, and a no-graphics version. Here's what they should look like on black or white:
