Rachel's Daily Diary
11 36 pm pst [ his mum ] For lunch I made noodle salad with my mother, and then I headed over to Matthew's mom's house for a movie and dinner date. Matthew's mum and I went to Winnetka to see Girl, Interrupted. The movie was exactly what I expected it to be (which I don't think I have ever said of a film before). It was most of interest to me because it was based on a true story -- the story of a writer. I am even considering reading her book. |

Today is one of those wonderful rare California rainy days [Or should I say reiny day?]. As usual, all of the news stations are reporting that it is raining. Californians are scrambling to purchase umbrellas which we be lost before it rains again. When one is not used to carrying an umbrella, it is quite easy to forget it when one sets it down in some out-of-the-way location when it is wet. I apparently missed a fantastic snow storm in New York. My brother at Yale said that even the natives are saying it is the coldest winter they can remember. Talking about the weather always reminds me of Sam. |

I really like Matthew's mother. I always wonder if she finds it awkward to hang out with her son's girlfriend. I talk to him more that she does. i know more about him now that she does, but she will always know all of him -- from start to finish -- whereas my experience with him will always have started in 1998. We talked about all sorts of topics. I have always had a small handful of friends more than twice my age, and I am happy to add Matthew's mum to the list. If I stay in LA, I am sure we will have many more get-togethers. And I am sure I will enjoy every one. She is a fantastic and loving woman! |
