10 23 pm pst   [ vegan chocolate ]

My belly is pooched out, stuffed with two veggie burgers. Lettuce, tomato, onion Gulden's spicy brown mustard, and vegan original Boca Burgers on whole wheat buns. I spoiled myself with strawberries and cholocolate for dessert.

I often get asked if chocolate is vegan. All chocolate is vegan except milk chocolate (hence its name) and some varieties of white chocolate, which isn't real chocolate anyway.

11 11 pm pst   [ brilliant films ]

Matthew just called, and I was relaying a story from New Year's. His dad made me put the news on tv and watch the Paris fireworks, which were lovely. He also made me watch England join 2000, which was a bigger show, but somehow much less impressive. Anyway, Matthew's dad said that England build that largest dome ever to show the world that they were hip with the new millenium, or some such nonsense. I said, "I think finding the cure for cancer would have shown the world that England is current with the new millenium."

In honor of the fact that I am watching Die Hard, and because I have made a list in a while, I am going to make a list of brilliant movies. Because I will undoubtedly forget several, and because there will hopefully be new ones to add in the future, I will give this list a permenant, updatable home.

Visit Reiny Day Brilliant Films for a complete list.

Today I went to the Family History Center. I thought it closed at five, so I figured I was being quite smart arriving at 1 30. I knew they would throw me out in a few hours. Only, I was wrong about the time, which I realized at 7. I left immediately then.

It wasn't an especially productive day. My great grandfather from whom I get my last name has been very elusive. Sometimes I feel myself getting close to him, but I have had great trouble tracking him down. He appears in very few New York directories, and none of the censuses.

But I am determined. I will find him. Today I learned how to look up passenger lists for immigration. A nice man helped me. He said he used to be president of the Jewish genealogical society. He is a full time genealogist; he said it isn't a good way to make a living. I indecently asked him what he charges: $30/hour. I thought it was really wonderful of him to take the time to help me. I wish I had gotten more of a chance to thank him.

two years ago today: "I love men that know kitchen magic, and Ben whipped up a veggie stir-fry teriyaki thing that was just fantastic. He started pulling all sorts of things out of his fridge, and quickly everything was chopped, cooked, and being served over steaming rice. It was delicious."

one year ago today: "Dinner was at a steak joint called The Outback, and Crocodile Dundee references were flying left and right."

* * *

one month ago today: "...I immediately named him Orpheus and he ... became a wild pet of sorts."
