11 49 pm pst   [ petals ]

I stayed up till the wee hours last night (after watching my movie) talking to Mattew's housemate Tom (the pool god). We discussed parents, marriage, money, dating, and all sorts of other nonsense. We each shared a secret with each other. Now I have two to take to my grave.

Matthew and I spent the greater portion of the day in the computer lab. He is working on an assignment for his 3D modelling class. I went to keep him company and to see how hard the 3D tools are to learn. They are meant to design precise structures and shapes, so organic shapes are much harder to achieve. Designing a telephone would be much easier than designing a human hand.

I picked something very hard: a flower. i knew I could cheat it a little, but the tools weren't designed to make flowers. The following picture shows my stem and the image after shows a wireframe version of Matthew's aquarium pump.

I utterly enjoyed toying with this new tool, though it was frustrating to be so unfamiliar with how to get the machine to do what I wanted it to. I look forward to continuing this project, and will post a movie of the full model in motion when I get it done. the following image show a fragment of a petal attached to my stem. I will be working on my petals as soon as we return to the lab.
