Presidents' Day

 

11 08 pm pst   [ mystery ]

I brought Matthew a cheesecake from LA; I carried it on the airplane myself. It has now disappeared from the freezer, and all three of his roommates are claiming innocence. I will get to the bottom of this mystery.

I began reading Jack Kerouac's On the Road. It was a birthday present. Inside, I found the following inscription, dated 7 December 1997.

Rachel -
This book was given to me as a gift from someone who saw in me the same manic energy that these characters possess. And now I give a copy to you. The characters vibrate with the very energy of existence! Yuo are one who coruscates through life, and so I give you this book, that you might share in the wonder of experience as these characters do. After all, as Kerouac says, "...the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars..." Let us remain mad always!
