1 32 pm est [ heavenly confetti ]
Happy St. Paddy's day! I
woke up late after a fitful night's sleep. I laid in bed and watched the
snow swirl down from above -- heavenly confetti. I watched for so long
the wall began to crawl upward. I ate up a bowl of cereal and put on my favorite heavy coat
-- my rainbow coat. I took a dress to the tailor's. I heard distant
bagpipes and so many horns one could only assume the entirety of New York
City was in a traffic jam.
After the alterations had been pinned, I headed for the
parade. I have to train myself to not think about picking things up;
everything in Manhattan gets delivered. The snow came down heavier and
heavier and I found a spot to watch. Myriad men marched by in their
uniforms. The bagpipes were my favorite. The cheerleaders and drill
teams in the short skirts were the most unhappy. You couldn't find a
single smile amongst them.
There wasn't a single female amidst the uniformed
officers and firemen. Come to think of it, I didn't spot any minorities
either, but I wasn't looking. I delighted in the music-makers, marching
to their own beat, skirts swaying. I giggled at the humor of humanity.
I began walking home when the parade broke again to let
traffic through. I though about the last time I saw snow.
[A woman on television just said, "Chauffeur seduction
-- don't you forget that."]
