11 00 pm pdt [ my little nose ]
Today is 14 in Nisan, 5760 on the Hebrew Calendar. It
is Passover. I am not doing anything to celebrate, though this is my
favorite holiday. I will wait until I have a home of my own and I can
host my own vegetarian seder.
I went for another monster hike today -- more than I have walked in years. I would
guess I did at least five miles. I was somehow driven to keep going, and
I didn't begin to get tired until I finally turned around to head home.
Let me just say that leftover pie is a great cure for
tired legs.

"I burnt my little nose." I touched my little nose.
"On what?" My mom looked concerned. "The sun?"
I nodded.

I love the smell of the creek I grew up playing in.
Sand, mud, water, rot, frogs, and moss mingle in the nostrils. My hike
today smelled like that -- the ground still soaked from the recent rain.
I wish I had my camera with me so I could show you the amazing site of a
huge chunk of mountain moved twenty feet from its previous location by
water. If we can ever transmit smells via the web, I will send you a
whiff of fresh sage first thing.
