Tonight, Matthew and I had
dinner with David of randomlife. He said we could pick him up at the BART [public
transportation] at 6 30, so Matthew and I enjoyed a late lunch and
watched City of Lost
Children (1995). At five I crawled downstairs to peek at my
e-mail and there were several from David saying he was getting off work
early, and he would arrive in Berkeley at 5. We scrambled together our essentials and took off to
get him. Thankfully, we found him easily.

I suggested Cha'am for dinner, so we got ensconced at a table and perused the
menu. I warned David he was going to have to tell me his life story. He
obliged. If you ever meet him, ask him to tell you the story of Susan
the violinist. He is a wonderful storyteller, as well as a Lisa magnet.

I happened to be seated against the window, and as the
sun began to set, I began to roast. After dinner, I wanted to chat more,
but I needed to get out of that restaurant. "Are there any coffee shops
we can walk to from here?" I asked. Matthew suggested Cesar's, just down
the block, next to Chez
Panisse, for a drink.

Who did we spot sitting in the window of Cesar's, but
Aurora as well as my friend
Brian F from the dorms freshman
year. Of course there was much clamoring and catching up and
introductions all around. Aurora and I agreed to meet after Chevys
tomorrow evening. Matthew didn't like how crowded Cesar's was, so we
headed for Blake's.

After a round of margaritas, we rented Three Kings
(1999) on DVD and David, Matthew, and I curled up on the couches at
Matthew's place to enjoy the flick. I got very drowsy by the end of the
evening, and having dropped David at the BART station, I am delighted to
be all curled up in bed.
