10 14 pm pdt   [ taxes ]

I know what you're thinking: Tell me about your Chevys date! Show me the pictures! And there are pictures. The puffy cactus chip, the empty margarita glasses, Kathy drinking jalapeño salsa. But today was my hardest parting with Matthew ever, and I've had a splitting headache for many hours that I have been unable to ditch via a screwdriver on the plane and three Advil when I got home. I'll just whip out this month's collab entry and I'll try to upload pictures tomorrow, after a full night's sleep.

This month's topic is "What is most disappointing about where you live?" It is supposed to be politically motivated, but is worded to please those who didn't want to write about politics. I considered indulging another rant about Prop 22, or just writing about how I don't have a home of my own. I could always complain about how pathetic my apartment was.

I am disappointed by taxes. I am disappointed that the government takes so much of our money, but can't seem to do the right thing with it. I think we should have the option of where at least some of our tax money goes. How about 5%? And there there can be this cute little checkbox section on the tax form. Do you want this money put towards defensie, education, the environment, highway maintenance, presidential dinners? That would let people put their money where their mouthes are. That would let us flex our democratic muscles. Oh, and I don't think inheritance should be taxed, especially because it already has been once...

Just for flavor, here are some pictures from when Matthew and I went camping:

two years ago today: I didn't write because I had to reconfigure my mom's computer to get internet access and that took a week.

one year ago today: I didn't write because I was packing and then left to drive the truck to LA.

six months ago today: "It would be lovely to write about my morning and evening routines..., but I don't have any."

one month ago today: "It's just a stone's throw from my house, and on a whim, I decided to take myself dancing."
