8 08 pm pdt [ eight hours ]
In college
I once read an article by a Russian author about free time. He said that
we had eight hours of free time a day: eight hours of work, eight hours of
sleep, and eight hours of free time. That certainly isn't true. I get
eight hours of work and eight hours of sleep. I spend an hour and a half
commuting to and from work. I use a half hour in the morning to shower
and eat breakfast. I use an hour [sometimes more, sometimes less] in the
evening to eat. That leaves me five hours of free time. I spend about an
hour a day on the phone with Matthew. I waste about an hour unwinding
after work and my rush hour commute. Now I'm down to three. I can, in
fact, waste all three of those hours. I could spend them driving to and
from dinner or a friend's house. I could spend them on freelance work. I
often do that in the evening. I sometimes go for a walk, or to the
grocery store. Sometimes I have to get gas or run other errands. I never
have close to eight hours of free time. Do you?
