11 54 pm cdt [ at the airport ]
It was 6 30 am pdt when Doyle and I queued in line at
LAX this morning. It was 11 30 pm cdt when we had gathered our luggage
and left the New Orleans airport this evening. Those thirteen hours of
time spent either in an airport or in the air we due to the airline's
inability to move people through the line to check baggage. The woman who
did our rebooking was fuming mad, mostly because she had to rebook a dozen
people who had missed the same flight. She bumped Doyle and I to first
class and laden us with meal vouchers, drink vouchers, and courtesy packs.
When she was finally done, she thanked us for being so understanding. I
wasn't upset at all. We had to spend a lot of time waiting in the airport
between our three flights, but we didn't have to pay for our food and
Doyle and I can always talk up a storm.
Outside of Houston we flew by an amazing lightening
storm, which Doyle announced had made the whole day worthwhile.
Lightening sparked again and again at less than three second intervals.
We watched in awe at the beauty of this planet we inhabit. I am
contented, though I am glad to not have to be in an airport again any time
soon.
