Hi sweety,
It's 2 30 on Sunday, and I'll be going to BBQ this afternoon. I hope your Sunday was lovely. The cats are wonderful; they sleep curled up against me in bed. I've been enjoying the quiet here. I went and saw the movie Smiling Fist and Goat on Fire with my mum yesterday. We had fun. She said she had potatoe hands, which she went on to explain meant she could hold a hot potato (since she is quite insensitive to heat). It made me think of you. I miss giving you daily updates on funny things the mum has said.

My mum is going to be out of town next weekend, so I'll be staying at her house and taking care of Boo Boo. I'm having a bit of a mango festival right now. I have a bug bit on my wrist.

All of my drek seems less interesting when I don't get to hear you laugh at me. I can't wait to explore Europe with. This is going to be our best adventure ever!

          Love,
          Rachel

Today has been ummm productive....I have not left my room and have been writing java all day. So far the layout managers and I have agreed to disagree.

It is about 4pm and I am still going strong on my breakfast of Belgian waffles (Is it any less cliché if I had them here in the Netherlands?...I didn't think so.) At any rate, the waffles were delicious...they came with the same fresh whipped cream that we had with desert on the plane. Personally I don't know how Rachel can avoid dairy. I often remark that I could conceive giving up meat (the concept is more and more onerous to me) but I could never give up cheese.

Last night's meal was very good Chinese...I promise that I will eat something that is native eventually.

The only thing that I wanted to do this morning was to get my hair cut. Unfortunately being that it is Sunday the country is closed. This will have to be done tonight by myself or tomorrow.

Jason (my boss) hatched a plan to head off to Belgium this morning however we got too busy to make that happen. I was feeling a little reluctant since we would only have been in Brussels long enough to have dinner and drinks. It just seemed like a wasteful idea. However, I did like the idea of the scenery from the high-speed train. Alas this is a side trip that will likely wait till Rachel gets here.

My latest plan, that will not likely come to fruition, is to see formula 1 racing on one of the Sundays that I am here. I will have to do research to see where the next race is.

I think I am still struggling to a degree to get adjusted to the time difference. I just find myself thinking that I could just lay down and close my eyes for a few minutes but I know that what will result is a 5 hour "nap". I think that Jason's method of dealing with the time difference will eventually work well for me. He thought the best way to do this is to get on the plane at 4pm PST and stay awake throughout the flight. Some people have no choice and just can't sleep on the plane. I can sleep anywhere. It is really a gift that I should be very thankful for. When we arrived yesterday we were to nap for ~4 hours till dinner and then proceed on proper local time.

Rachel will be sleepy and the wrong temperature when she arrives. The weather has been very Berkeley like, cloudy and occasional rain. I find it very soothing but not inviting for out-of-doors forays.

Jason just called and it looks like we are going to a blues club tonight.

I hope that I can keep this up through the trip. It will make it easier to remember what I experienced.
