9 38 pm pst   [ explorations ]

It was a lovely, full day. After a lazy morning of cuddling and cereal, we headed off to the Exploratorium. It was a crisp, clear day and I think Matthew brought the camera along because he felt bad for not getting pictures of us while we were in Europe. He normally hates pictures, but today it was his idea.

The stunning architecture of the Palace of Fine Arts was a gorious surprise. I had never been there before, and the tall Roman columns seemed so out of place and abrupt nestled in the city as they were. We had good parking karma and found a perfect spot which afforded us a long lazy walk through the columns to the Exploratorium.

We snuggled arm in arm for comfort and warmth, occasionally stopping to take pictures.

Our companions in exploration were Ethan, whom I'd known since before I started dating Matthew, and his girlfriend Katie. They were both like me and delighted in playing with every toy and experiment in the place. I made everyone play a round of the language game and made a kissing pose with Matthew in the shadow room. Ethan and Katie reported that they had made a kissing face too. I laughed when I found out.

Matthew stood behind them while they shared the big chair, tired after a hard day of play.

I adore Matthew's keen interest in and understanding of science. I made him explain many of the experiments we played with today, especially the ones involving electricity and motors. I most fascinated by the experients that involved bending sound. Matthew had to drag me away from the echo tunnel, and through our adventures I asked, "Will you build me one of these?" He always said yes.

After we were running out of energy, we began making our way towards the exit. Matthew caught me checking out the aquariums again.

I didn't know that Matthew took a picture of me running in circles as fast as I could to create a tornado. It made me so dizzy, but it was so satisfying when the swirl of fog formed a column that touched the ceiling.

After we finished exploring, the four of us headed for Japantown for some sushi. On the way home we rented Blue Velvet (which I am enjoying immensely). Now we are ready for sleep's sweet song.

1 year ago today: He looked so sharp in his uniform (though he delightfully complained that he had been mistaken the night before for a bellhop, doorman, and usher).
