9 56 pm pst   [ soft skin ]

Today I played with my Amazon.com wish list and made it publically viewable.

x-mas tree On returning from lunch today I spotted this festively decorated Jacaranda tree. It was a little pathetic looking. Though I love it, there is somthing a little sad about our 85 degree Christmases here in Southern California. The warm weather is wonderful, as is the spirit of Christmas, but the sparkly red and green decorations pitted against blue sky and palm trees instead of snow just looks silly sometimes. Perhaps I should have tried to experience one real New York Christmas before running back to sunny California.

I was hoping that if I continued to write random facts an entry idea would come to me when I heard this commercial:

You can fight wrinkles or you can fight tone, texture, splotches, and wrinkles.

Excuse me? You're going to "cure" my skin tone and texture. I like my skin with tone and texture. In fact, I like my skin with my tone and texture.

This disgust has been a long time coming. On Halloween I wore foundation make-up for the first time in my life. It was an experiment which I obviously should have performed a decade ago, but what can I say?

When I finally looked in the mirror, I realised what the foundation was doing. I was removing the contrast in my skin. I was taking my natural variations in coloring and coating them with a solid.

I don't want to pretend to be one color. I am not one color. I have texture and tone and I'm not quite sure why anyone would want to fight that.

1 year ago: I didn't pay much heed to that, but I am always delighted when I sneeze just once. I generally sneeze twice, and I read that the number of times one tends to sneeze is genetically determined...
