My new word of the week is demulcent, which means
soothing. I'd already told him about it. I long for his demulcent
caresses.

"Yesterday I learned about a new religion."
"Oh! What?
He proceeded to tell me about Jainism.
I adore talking to him while he's on his commute. I
adore talking to him at anytime. I called last night before bed to report
on my absolutely amazing birthday party.
We were supposed to number 8, but by the time we
reached the restaurant we were down to 5, which turned out to be perfect.
I was joined by Doyle (a co-worker), Kim (Matthew's sister), Karina and Jo (both
friends from Berkeley). When
we arrived at Benihana, Christian (whom I met on Halloween) was waiting with flowers,
appologizing that he couldn't stay because his babysitter for the evening
had flaked. I wish he could have stayed, but it was so sweet of him to
come by and make his appologies in person.
I had requested chef John when I made the reservation,
because he was so wonderful the first time I was at Benihana. To my
delight, none of my companions had been to Benihana before, so the
teppanyaki experience was a surprise to all of them (except Jo, who had
been to Benihana when she was ten). I had brought a book of questions
(The
Conversation Piece 2) and though Doyle rolled his eyes when I
whipped it out, we were shortly engaged in rapid conversation with regards
to the inquiries we took turns reading.
After hearing about eighteen renditions of Happy
Birthday followed by If You're Happy and You Know It Clap Your
Hands in Japanese we were full and happy and begining to feel
pressured by the fact that the restaurant employees were turning off
lights and there was only one other table with partons remaining.
It was a magnificent evening -- possibly the best birthday I can ever remember
having. I wish Alexandra hadn't had an essay due, Charles hadn't had band
practice, Christian had a better babysitter, Michael hadn't gone missing
in action, and Matthew was in town, but eveything really was perfect and I
went home with an armful of flowers and balloons, as well as my precious
Benihana birthday polaroid.
