10 21 pm pst [ newt & soul searching ]
You know the situation where people are so riled up
that they are perfectly willing to argue in front of you, but you know you
should be witness to that activity? Matthew is upstairs discussing
the phone bill with one of his roommates.
I have escaped downstairs to his bedroom, abandoning
him to play out this conversation and finish cooking our dinner. I can't
believe this is my last night here.
We had a magnificent day at the UCB botanical gardens, where he
indulged my desire to take myriad photographs and to spend a copious
amount of time looking for newts in the pond. I gleefully spotted
several.
The clickable thumbnails are:
- a ladybug
- bamboo
- water droplets on a leaf
- red flowers
- a view of the bay
- a knobby, mossy tree trunk
- Paulownia [I wanted to remember two of the plants: a variety
of Acacia from Cuba which I failed remember, and the Paulownia
Grab-something; I have been unable to find either of the second
names but here are some links I'd like to save from my search:]
- a pretty vine
- the only newt we were able to get a picture of, photographed by Matthew
- the newt pond on our approach
- lily pads with a single lily bud
- a tree reflected in the water
- the beautiful pond where we enjoyed the newts
It was an afternoon of peaceful contemplation and quiet
kisses. For the most part we avoided the topic of my leaving until I
later turned to him in the supermarket.
"I think I should move up here and live with you."
"Are you sure?" He was holding the basket and a long baguette. I had
four boxes of cereal in my hands.
"One hundred percent."
We continued our shopping.
Now I'm going to see in dinner is ready so we can enjoy
our last evening together...
