_________________ Sunday 11 February 2001 10 48 pm pst [ with love, from Turkey ] I get irritated when I can't find something on the web. I know it hasn't been around that many years and I know it is a ridiculous expectation to assume people and products will be webified, but there you have it... I admit it. I expect the web to work for me. It irks me that comedian Anthony Clark doesn't have a page, so I can't find out when and where he is performing stand-up. It irks me that when I wanted to buy "Itoya Art Portfolios" their website did not provide me with a dealer in Los Angeles, a way to order direct, or any information as the where I could order them online. But tonight I'm a bit giddy because I found exactly what I wanted. I needed someone in Turkey who understood English and Turkish and could buy me something and mail it to the States. My first thought was to post the request in my diary, but it seemed doubtful that I would have a reader in Turkey. I've been in touch with various readers from France, Singapore and Thailand, but I've never heard a peep from Turkey. Then during my genealogical research, I came across the services of Edvardas Amstibovskis, who will do research, buy and mail you items, inform you about business opportunities, perform translations, or provide most any other service you would like in Lithuania. Now I just needed to find his counterpart in Turkey. And I did, when I located the page of Oguz Kosebalaban. Now we're figuring out how I can pay him and how my items will be shipped to me. They are a gift and I promise to tell all about them as soon as I'm not worried anymore about spoiling the surprise. In other news, I took a magnificent early morning walk this morning and concluded that exercise is easy when you are looking at the ocean. I am thrilled for matthew, who is taking off work this week to go skiing with two of his best friends, because it is pouring right now and I'm sure they will have a ton of fresh powder. I am hopeful of hearing about my computer repairs this week. I just took on another web job which should more than cover my $400 repair costs. In addition, a microfilm of church records from Austria has arrived (as per my order) at my local family history center, so I will probably spend a good portion of Tuesday at the library. My mum and I have also made plans to see O Brother, Where Art Thou?. This should be a good week...
