Rachel's Daily Diary -- 01 December 1999 movie Yep, I watched it, and I did notice the reflection in the mirror, too, LOL

My comment & question is this: Do you have a reference to the REAL poem, that you have obviously quoted? If so, I sure would appreciate knowing what they are. My grandfather taught me to read with that poem & it was in a large book of collections of silly poems for kids when I was 5.

All I remember were twisting references & the first line & the last, which is

"Makes no difference where you sit, the man in the gallery is sure to spit"

Any help is appreciated, and just for silly reasons...trying to reference something that meant a lot to me as a small child learning, and as an adult teaching ::grin:: (I quote the ladles & jelly spoons & the makes no difference parts of the poem frequently to my students).

Thanks for anything you can tell me about it

B., thanks for writing. Unfortunately, I don't know what "Ladles & Jelly Spoons" is from, having been taught it by my father when I was young. I was unable to find its source on the web. I will let you know if I ever find out.

That's interesting. I learned the whole thing up to the "came and shot the two dead boys" from my dad, and then years later someone else taught me "if you don't believe this lie that's true, ask the blind man, he saw it too." Now you've added another line. Perhaps it will keep growing!

[Does anyone know the source of this poem?]

....
I'm really curious how you are doing; reading a few entries only gives an idea of what you're paying attention to at the moment, not the overall of your situation (though I did find your account of a certain elementary school embarrassment particularly funny, since I myself once spelled the word "I" incorrectly on a first grade spelling test, with a lowercase "i" instead...To this day I don't think I'll ever get over the horror I felt at misspelling a letter).  Anyway, drop me an Email if you get the chance.

And so it was that Devon -- formerly a fellow film student at Berkeley and currently of JiffySquid fame -- got in touch with me. We wound up seeing Snatch today and catching up on each other's lives with the rapid chatter that comes with seeing an old friend. I'm looking forward to listening to him on the air on Friday, if I manage to get myself up early enough...
