11 29 pm pdt [ flying kites ]
Today I took a wonderfully tiring walk with Matthew
around the golf course in Tilden. I was impressed with the volume of
people taking advantage of the sunshine and cool breeze.
We discovered some new park areas, and in one of them
some people were preparing to fly a kite.
I love kites. For me they still hold the same wonder
the do for a small child. I love the gave of tug-o-war with the wind one
invariably engages in.
When I was younger, for a dozen years in a row, my
grandfather rented a beach house on Long Beach Island where the family
would gather for one week each August. One very windy week, I purchased a
kite and flew it much higher than I though possible. The tug on the
string was visible, and I was sure at any moment it was going to break
free. I wanted to ride the wind on that kite. I still do.
I added flying a kite to the activity box.
