11 39 pm pdt [ decadent ]

Think of the most decadent recipe you have ever ventured to make. Tonight, with Matthew gone on business, I set about to make:

baked tomatoes with ginger and cilantro

• 4 extra-large tomatoes
• 1 bunch large green onions, chopped
• 1 large garlic clove, minced
• 1/2 inch square fresh root ginger, minced
• 1 shallot, minced
• 2 tablespoons chopped lemon verbena
• 4 tablespoons chopped cilantro
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
• 6 tablespoons tangelo (or orange) juice
• 2 tablespoons blackberry balsamic vinegar (or any sweet vingegar)
• 2 tablespoons sweet lemon juice
• salt and peper

Of course, you can't buy lemon verbena at the market, so part of my preperation was walking to the local nursery to buy a sizable lemon verbena plant. It wasn't with the other edibles, so it took quite a bit of hunting around before I located it.

I found some nice dried foxtails on the side of the road and took home a handfull for my three vases.

Matthew's been in a bad mood for several days straight, and I was almost glad he was going away for a bit, but I miss him already...

three years ago today: Work real hard so you can go shopping on the weekend.   All the unhappy faces waiting to ride on the trolley car...   I have no idea how people determine what is recreation and what is displeasure.

two years ago today: We spent part of the morning talking about having children.   The air was thick with tension.

one year ago today: "Can we go out to dinner?" I asked -- my life revolves around eating.
