[ the countdown ]

You know that feeling of being overwhelmed? I swam in it today.

This evening we had people over for a birthday party / pre-housewarming party / game night. And Matthew's sister arrived in town. And tomorrow is our housewarming.

The party was an impromptu event with our regular game night attendees. The two couples could not attend our housewarming because one was having her birthday that day, so I proposed an alternate event, which turned out very well.

So when I woke up, all I wanted to do was to beg Matthew to tell his boss he was sick and come home early.

I needed to buy a table cloth and hand soap, I need to return my rental movie, and most importantly, I needed to clean.

I decided to ignore everything and watch a movie while I ate breakfast. In the middle of the film I went and returned another film. I photographed some key regions of the apartment before breakfast, after the movie, and later in the afternoon. This was Matthew's idea, and all credit goes to him, because I think it turned out wonderfully.

The floor just outside the kitchen was the worst. There were metal filings all about from drilling holes in the aluminum doors of our dressers. I needed to clean off the foam pieces and vacuum everywhere. I wouldn't let Matthew walk around barefoot for fear that he would cut himself [I never go barefoot, preferring to shuff-shuffle around in my oversized slippers].

The hall was the next disaster area, with cardboard boxes resting on every surface. I broke each one down and carried them all outside in a few trips. The all that was left was to get my bedside table out of the front hall.

This is a bird's eye view of the pile of clothes on the floor of the bedroom. These clothes are here because we haven't finished building our wardrobes, and we have no hampers. The shoe rack thing is my old bedside table, which isn't by the bed because we are still positioning the wardrobes. The main pile of clothes is Matthew's and is housed in a large suitcase. My stuff is more strewn about. You can see I got most everything moved by the afternoon.

The living room didn't need much work besides straightening up the coffee table (which I didn't really do) and removing the cardboard under the window (which I did do). The plant on the close corner of the coffee table is my newest purchase, and I think it looks like an old balding man's hair when he engages in creative combing. I couldn't move the unconstructed drawers (in the cardboard boxes) off the couch, because I couldn't reach where I wanted them to go. I used the large water bottle to water various plants and you can see that my house coat made a home on the couch.

The kitchen needed little work besides washing the dishes, but there was more than one load to do. Matthew's drill bits were still sitting out, as well as unwashed bottle stoppers, and a plant that had been moved during drilling. Some of the dishes got done and the plant went back to its home on the floor. I took out the composting too.

I really dig our new table. In the morning it had last night's dinner on it, as well as packing material. i folded all the packing stuff and stored it in the closet in case we might need it some day. There wasn't a large selection of table cloths when I made it to the store, so I picked the one that worked best and told Matthew I'd return it if he hated it. It's neither of our tastes, but i think we both feel it works well. I certainly worked for game night, when we got around to playing.

[ 3 years: ]

three years ago today: I didn't write because I was in New York.

two years ago today: I insisted that we take a picture when we stopped so that my mom could get a chocolate malt at the DQ. She insisted that it be of me, so here I am looking way too smiley about dairy...

one year ago today: Suddenly Matthew was there, and I tried to get him to punch the ugly guy, but Matthew just stood there and flatly refused.
