11 19 pm pdt [ sleeping with him ]

We had a really magnificent day today. He slept absurdly late and then we lazed around the house relaxing.

The man can sleep. He can sleep all day. He can sleep 16 hours at a time and it means nothing. But if he's tired all day it often indicates that he's depressed. I can't sleep late unless I'm depressed.

He litterally goes to sleep the second his head hits the pillow. We've talked about it. I'm jealous. He says he just knows its time to go to bed and he does. I have to read. I could read the nutritional contents listed on food labels if I got desperate, but I have to read.

I can't sleep with socks on. When I was little I slept with the light on, so I can still do that, though it is not my prefence. I can't go to sleep when it is noisy. Matthew snores, so now he wears Breathe Right Strips.

I sleep on my side. I love surling up and making spoons with him, but sometimes that makes us too hot and we eventually must fall apart.

After his long sleep, we went out a did errands.

I ran into a highschool friend at a bookstore in Berkeley and then Matthew and I went to Norikinoko where we tried a new saké called Karatamba.

[ 3 years: ]

three years ago today: Well, yesterday didn't go as I planned and I have lost a pinch of my enthousiam about next semester, though I expect it to return soon.

two years ago today: Today we made our way to Yale, and had a lovely dinner at a restaurant on the campus, before going to a nearby hotel.

one year ago today: That's when he called. He was working so hard to cheer me up. He said he had a surprise for me that should arrive that day. I love surprises. I love him.

day 25

Princess Mononoke (1999)

I asked Matthew to select the evening's movie. When he came back with Princess Mononoke I thought it was Princess Caraboo (1994) -- a truly awful film -- and I began protesting until I realized it was anime. The animation was wonderful and the story was lovely, though oh so foreign. The voice overs, done by popular American actors, were exceptionally bad. Clair Danes was horrible. Billy Bob Throton's "western" accent was horribly miscast. Only after watching the film, when playing around with the special features, did we realize we could watch it in the original language with subitles instead of the wretched dub. I began watching again and the entire fil was different. The main character had none of the softness and youth of the dubbed version and the traslated subtitles told a very different story than the voice overs. 3 stars
