After my morning dose of the news (we are getting CNN's European broadcast, instead of the American broadcast) I decided I would take a long walk. I had sat with a travel guide and plotted key sites on a map. But my first order of busness was to mail my postcards, though I have no idea when they will arrive in the States.

Where I walked today is shown in color on the map.

The window display that formerly housed the pitcher plant had been changed, and I stopped to admire the new arrangements, which strongly appeal to my aesthetic sense.

Here I am reflected in a shop window. I am imposed on the image of African art and a bicyclist is whizzing by in back of me.

After the post office, I admired the typical architecture along the canal. The day was still sunny.

This door and painted garage struck me as particularly beautiful.

On my map I had marked the "Golden Bend" where the architecture is supposed to be particularly fine, but it all looked the same to me.

The Bloemenmarkt (flower market) was better than I could have imagined, though tulips obviously had more than their fair share of space.

I had lunch by myself, with a view of the market, before heading to the flea market at Waterlooplein, the shopping along Utrechtsestraat, and the open air Albert Cuypmarkt. I got caught in the rain twice, but arrived home warm enough.
