1:10 pm pdt [ crusaders of the lost art ]

I am on a crusade to eliminate junk mail from my life. I have called 888-5OPTOUT (888-567-8688) to remove myself from direct mail offers from mailing lists offered by the main consumer credit reporting agencies -- TransUnion, Experian, Equifax, and Innovis (full details here). I would highly recommend it; it is fast and easy.

I have told my credit cards and whatnot that they may not e-mail me or call me with offers, and that they may not sell my information.

Did you know that over 100 billion pieces of commercial mail are sent a year?

All mail that comes to our address for another person gets marked "Addressee Unknown" and sent back. All mail that comes for me that I don't want gets marked "Refused By Addressee" and sent back.

My next step is the Direct Marketing Association. They have a Mail Preference Service, a Telephone Preference Service, and a E-mail Preference Service -- all of which are national name-removal services for consumers who wish not to receive unsolicited offers at home, in accordance with the DMA's privacy policy.

My first step is to use the Mail Preference Service's online registration form. Oh, they charge a fee, so I'll be mailing that in (as soon as I get a printer). I just registered with the E-mail Preference Service and I don't need the Telephone one bacause I don't get unsolicited telephone calls.
