I'm guessing that reading about my dreams isn't exactly your idea of a good time, but this is the best and easiest place for me to record them, so...

Drugstore Cowboy

This evening we watched Drugstore Cowboy (1989) which realized in the course of watching that I had seen before. I don't like movies about yucky people having yucky lives, though there was some attempt at redemption in this film. I didn't enjoy it the first time, so... rating

Doesn't Matthew look grouchy in that picture I took of him?

11 17 am pst [ dreams ]

I woke up this morning and told Matthew about a long dream I had had. He worked for some large company -- BMW I think -- and we lived in some sort of corporate housing with his mother, father, sister, and I think my father. We lived on the top floor of this poorly constructed structure. The room was a big dormitory with cots laid out and the walls and roof were thin sheets of metal. There was an enormous water-driven system used to move these enormous concrete slabs to the top floor which we would then sit on to ride down to the ground.

We were about to get on one such slab, and Matthew was -- in his typical way -- explaining how it worked from an engineering background. Apparently they used to have smaller, shoddier structures and this one was much bigger and newer. Matthew said that the concrete slabs moved with such force that if nobody sat on them, then they would go flying off their tracks. As he finished explaining this, a slab passed without us sitting on it and it did as he said, knocking the roof off our building and crashing down onto a partially constructed (and thankfully uninhabited) building.

We were all so shocked that another slab passed without passengers and it too went careening off, ripping off our wall, and causing destruction but hurting no one.

The dream went on in a fashion I can't remember, but I do remember two further snippets. One is that Matthew's sister intentionally dropped something over the side to see what happened, and when someone exclaimed, "Ow!" it became apparent that people were hanging over the side. She was really upset that she hurt someone and I was trying hard to cheer her up.

I remember the end of the dream. We were in our rooftop home with no roof or walls and everyone was sort of milling about. My dad said that on the positive side, we did have a lot of cushions because he'd just bought five extra ones as a gift for my sister. I was trying to motivate people into making a decision about what we ere going to do, but everyone was being indecisive (this is in character for everyone but my dad). I said that there had to be a solution and that we should call the construction company directly instead of calling BMW -- Matthew's employers. Matthew said, "Do you know who ICB is?" and I understood that ICB was the name of the construction company. He meant to discourage me, but I simply said no, and that I would call information to find out how to get in touch with them. Then I woke up.

After relaying all of this to Matthew, I fell back asleep and had another dream. Matthew and I were in his new car and we had driven over a cliff. This wasn't particularly scary, but I was in problem-solving mode and was trying to decide if I should deploy the airbags for Matthew or not.

Sometime later I was supposed to be following him and I was driving a stick (his current white car) which I can only barely do. I got behind at a light and was upset because I was going to be late to meet him at some train station. Then my dad showed up and the white car became a small red car -- something like a Bug-Eyed Sprite. It was pulled my a squirrel and I had long reins covered in some cereal like Honey Nut Crunch. Pulling the car wasn't very laborious for the squirrel as long as he got to nibble on the cereal on the reins. At some point I got distracted by something and dropped one of the reins and the squirrel nibbled along it until it reached the end. I remember being disappointed because the squirrel was like a greyhound that races. Once it reached the end of the rein, it would never pull a car again. Then I woke up.

I just had to take this photo because the shadows were just so interesting.
