Storyboards spread on the table; hand gestures to
illustrate camera moves; the lowering of his head when he's not sure about
an idea, and the twinkle in his eye when he's especially proud of
something he's come up with.
Yesterday, I had lunch with Devon (of JiffySquid) who was a film major at
Berkeley with me. I am
beginning to suspect that the point of film school, or perhaps college as
a whole, is making enough contacts to staff any sort of project you can
come up with. I've always said I knew enough people who wanted to be in
the film industry to complete an entire feature film. It's really true.
So Devon has borrowed my camera and is furiously storyboarding
one short while batting around ideas for several other projects. He knows
people interested in writing, editing, sound, music, digital effects,
acting, etc. and has cast Matthew and I in his first film (of course,
Matthew is a sleaze who doesn't get the blond bombshell and I wind up with
another guy).
I've realized that I've shied away from movies for a
year or so while persuing an interest in still photography, but I think
it's about time I come around to one of my greatest passions. Anyone have
a short film idea they want to share?
