It's Sunday, so of course we woke up early to go
racing. But first we had to spend the evening before with Katya. Katya
(of shrine fame)
takes a photo for her boyfriend Mark every day, so she asked
if we could take it for her to save her having to do the whole timer
thing. So we pointed our cameras.

... and Katya flipped! "Wait, I'm not ready! I don't
know what to do!" I dutifully documented the action shots.

Then she came up with a pose. Oh la la!

So Matthew convinced Phil to come with us to racing
(which was in Stockton, ugh!). Phil posed for me in the pink loaner
helmet we shared.

Matthew is planning on getting sponsorship. You can
sponsor him if you'd like. If you buy us helmets, then they will sport
your logo (corporate or personal). Ideally he's looking for someone to
keep him in tires and brakes, and to pay his membership fees. But for
this day he raced as sponsered by reinyday.com which delighted me to no
end!

[racing #1, racing #2, racing #3]

Our reflection in another car:

A big ol' brake:

Phil watched for the first round then rode for the next
two:

The flag guy was cool!

Matthew spent a lot of time concentrating between
rounds:

Here are the boys walking. Phil is carrying a stick
that would later be part of a complex scheme to break into his car to
extract the keys he had locked inside. I went around asking for a Jimmy,
and was greeted by the "stupid female locked her keys in her car" wince
from all the car-crazy boys. Ah, but it was a boy who locked his keys in
his car, so there!

I sat in the car a read during Matthew's work group. I
admired my foot:

... and then noticed that they were towing a BMW
near-by.

As soon as the tow truck showed up, the boys flocked
over to watch and comment. What a boy magnet!

After working, Matthew stayed to do "fun runs" and
improved on his time rather nicely.

The clouds were lovely:

There was one car that Matthew said was very bad ass
but I thought looked really silly because it had these fake headlight
things (cardboard?). The guy in back with the red car always pushes it in
line and apparently has many little rituals, such as getting into the car,
getting out and putting on his helmet and then getting in again. This is
a whole culture I never knew existed.

This is another shot of our reflection in another car,
only I later realized that you can also see the reflection of the book I'm
reading in my lap.
