5 15 pm pdt [ the week ahead ]
Today we helped a friend move from Berkeley to San Jose
and are both exhausted. It's good that it comes so close before our move
because it helps us think of ways we want to be organized.
You will porobably laugh at how impracticle this is,
but I have the desire to move all of our stuff down in a car and only take
furniture in the moving truck. I think we'll be able to do three
car-loads before moving day, and then I'll probably do the kitchen stuff
afterwards.
Tonight we are going to see Matthew's friend's
band -- SUPERPANTS -- perform at Smiley's (established 1851)
in Bolinas. We will be joined by Lunesse and hubbie, which is excited
because we haven't seen them in a while...
Tomorrow Matthew is racing while I go to a BBQ and then
we are both heading off to a much needed game night.
On Monday we sign our lease (pending certain
contractual negotiations). I also have two job interviews -- one at a
school and one at a placement agency.
On Tuesday I am sitting one of the kids from the school
where I used to work. He will just have flown back from Holland so I
don't know if I will simply be watching him sleep all day or if we will
actually get to play.
On Wednesday we will be moving. Matthew had the
brilliant [seriously!] idea to only ask people to help us move in or out,
so we solicited friends to help us move our of Oakland and others to help
us move in in Mountain View. Unfortunately, we don't currently have any
Oakland volunteers. But we still haven't heard from several people.
I didn't mention that Matthew has mandatory vacation
this coming week, did I? It's company-wide, so that people get paid out
of the vacation bank account instead of the regular one. It's annoying to
be told when you have to use your vacation days, but it's turned out to be
quite convenient for us. So we're thinking of maybe going down to LA
after the move. I made an appointment to see my dentist there, but I'm
thinking of cancelling. If they're going to want to pull my tooth then I
don't want to see them. I only want to know if leaving the tooth in will
cause some sort of serious damage. Otherwise it stays. At least Matthew
understands my disdain over all optional medical treatments.
I wonder if it's better to see my orthodontist, and
maybe try to get a retainer to prevent my wisdom tooth from digging into
my cheeck muscle. Too much nonsense.
Anyway, if we do go to LA I think we'll stop in Ojai
and spend the night at my mom's house for the first time. We'll have to
bring a sleeping bag, because I don't think there's a bed in the guest
room yet. It will be such a short trip since we now live an hour south of
where we used to and my mother's new house is an hour north of our old
destination.
I feel awkward about the move. It somehow seems unreal
or something. I can't wait to sign the lease and feel like everything is
official.
