Yes, a trip to the library and a trip to the used bookstore only resulted in me odering a PHP/mySQL book online. Then Matthew and I sat on the couch and tried to piece together something that worked from a half-dozen outdated tutorials. I'm a bit addicted. I have the database doing its thing and now the HTML form will actually input new data. Another page has output. It all works dandy. Now I just have to think about the database design before I populate the database with hundreds of entries I will later need to manually modify.
