Gospel of Thomas 22:4: "When you make the male and
the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female
female...then you will enter [the kingdom]."
It seems to me that you could use this bible quote to
justify some pretty nasty DNA work. Actually, and I think that I've
mentioned this before, if I were involved in genetics research, I would be
very interested in combining the DNA from two women so that lesbian
couples could have children. I would also be interested in the same thing
for men, but it would be much more difficult because of the
Y-chromosome. Men have certain genetic weaknesses (such as a propensity
for hemophilia and color blindness) that is complimented by a woman's
genes. Actually, now that I think of it, I guess you should be able to
get enough information from the X-chromosome belonging to each man.
And now I am totally fixated on genealogical DNA
testing. I really can't get enough of it!
