Labor Day

I kind of want to turn my diary into a wiki.
040 days until our wedding
Since I don't really have a good "bout this site" page up at the moment, let me try to briefly explain. I started this diary in 1997. There were some programs you could use to generate webpages, but they mostly made ugly code. I taught myself HTML and I hand-coded each page. I would change the deign as often as possible. I think the entirety of my site is made using a text editor and Photoshop.
Web technologies boomed. I can see may way to edit somebody else's javascript code or perl script, but I wanted my pages to be accessible to everyone, so I shied away from the hottest technologies.
Then I got swamped by life, began working jobs where I was not in front of a computer, and killed my precious laptop. Online diaries were already very pupular, then came blogs (blog is short for weblog, and generally signifies a sort of shorter diary that tend to link to the web [i.e. be a log of the web]). People created all sorts of fancy ways to automate journalling, such as Grey Matter and Movable Type.
I thought of going that way. In fact, the reason I didn't is probably my lack of skill of configuring such software on the lovely surver. Inertia set in, and I wasn't writing much anyway.
I wanted to automate the export of photos from iPhoto to directly upload them to the server. But I also wanted to do 800 other projects, so nothing happened. Typical Rachel. The thing that saves me is that I do get *some* of my projects done, so even if they are only a small fraction of my total ideas and plans, I still feel accomplished.
Now enter the wiki, the webpage that can be edited by anyone and which tracks all changes. You can see it in action with the Wikipedia -- a free, user driven encyclopedia.
I think it would be fun to make this diary a wiki. You could correct my mistakes, ask questions which I would answer, link related entries and pages, make your own lists and references, etc. My vision is grand, but I don't think it's very practicle.

What a difference a few hours makes. I'm already on to a much bigger and grander wiki idea. I even registered some domains for it. Heh.
Based mainly on these 2003 ICANN Registrar Statistics, I moved my Reinyday.com registration from Dotster to GoDaddy. I don't like Dotster and I will be moving each domain as it expires.

In other news, Matthew was getting something out of the freezer in the dark last night and an unopened bottle of good tequila shattered on the floor. He cut his foot on the glass, but didn't even notice until I spotted the blood.
And I picked up my car today from EDGE Motorworks in Dublin. The bill was *less* than the estimate had been. When does that ever happen? And now she's running great again. Ah, precious air-conditioning. Now I just need a new cell phone and I'll be all swanky again.
