I had a wonderfully lengthy conversation with Ashley tonight. I felt like I had
to. Ashley and I met online ages ago, when I was making a routine
update for my MOO List. He asked me if I kept my list updated
[we were, at this point, chatting on a MOO I had popped
onto to look for a description] and when I told him I did, he offered me
server space. Poof. Just like that. Free space!
So I had a mirror. And I knew from the start that Ash would be a peach.
It did surprise me several years (!) later when Ash decided to put
a journal
online. And when he sought help from me regading a journal
generation program he was writing, I recommended him to one of my mailing lists. He jumped
right in, and a week later he posted about his inability to talk to people
on the phone; he found the he could communicate through writing in his
journal, but not while talking to someone. This immediately made
Ash my pet project. How to get him confortable talking? Call
him of course! And so I did, tonight, and I am glad. We
discussed many things, from the trivial to the personal. And there
he is, quite possibly a friend for life, and someone who is so generous,
and who feels comfortable talking to me. What more can you ask for
in another human being?
