The current buzz on the diarists' mailing lists is The Diarist Awards in which
people can nominate their favorite entries and journals. The entry categories are:
- Best Romantic Entry
- Best Dramatic Entry
- Best Guest Entry
- Best Collaborative Entry
- Best Account of a Public or News Event
- Best Rant
- Outstanding Entry
I said I would like to see:
- Best Erotic Entry
- Best Minutia
People seem to have latched onto the erotic entry idea, so perhaps
something will come of that. I suggested it because I thought a lot
of people would enjoy reading it. I have only written one erotic entry. The "Best
Minutia" idea came from a fantastic entry on grapefruit body wash [click on the "next" link
for the second entry].

In a fit of classics desire today, I watched I know where I'm Going (1945)
and the fabulous Mae West in Belle of the Nineties (1934). I absolutely adore the
quotes I have read from Mae
West, but I've never seen one of her films. So I asked Chris,
the film guru, to recommend a good Mae West film, and that is what I got.
I especially loved when she sang My Old Flame,
so I located the
lyrics, and then rewound the film and transcribed them as she sings
them:
My old flame
I can't even think of his name
But it's funny now and then
How my thoughts go drifting back again to
My old flame
My new lovers all seem so tame
For I haven't met a gent
As magnificent or elegant
Then my old flame
I've met so many who had fascinating ways
A fascinating gaze in their eyes
Some who took me up to the skies
But their attempts at love
Were only imitations of
Oh, my old flame
Just can't think of his name
But I'll never be the same
Until I discover what became
Of my old flame
