Links of interest:
- a newly discovered journal that links to me; I wrote to her about her reference to me, and she posted my message in her diary, but didn't respond
- a search for "beginning" finds my diary
My grandfather agreed to tape the Mtv Video Awards for a friend of his, which meant that the television had to be on at full volume during the broadcast (because he believes it won't recond if it is off). I can't even get excited about the Academy Award, so this was a bunch of foof to me. Thankfully, I missed most of it while we were out to dinner. What I did glean:
- only male groups were nominated for "best rock video", and Korn won, as it should, for its stunning video (despite the fact that I don't especially like the song, the video is visually arresting)
- at 10 27 pm edt, I typed to Matthew:
best direction in a video:
fat boy slim's "praise you"
did you see it?
very "waiting for guffman"esque...- beasty boys won for best hip hop video: intergalactic
- tlc was the only female viewer's choice nominee, but backstreet boys won
Enough of that nonsense.
Matthew has asked me to chaparone a skiing trip with him in December, and has sent me a link to a job in Hawaii for which I will apply
Last night (the 8th) I had dinner with my newly found cousin Brian. We had a total blast [sharing life stories] and I am so glad to have met him. He treated me to dinner, and afterwards I went to his apartment and met his friend Michael. I was very tired (as I often get) and i developed a rather nasty stomach ache, due to the fact that I had forotten to eat breakfast and lunch, and didn't get anything into myself until 6. My body was most displeased with this course of action. Michael was too polite to me, indicating tht he didn't much care for me, which was probably the result of me giving the same vibes to him. I just can't get used to really stoned people. I always get uncomfortable... Anyway, I am afraid my belly ache made me a bit unfun, but Brian seemed still in good spirits when I called him to tell him that I hd gotten home safely. I took a cab, and upon arriving at my door, realized that I had no clue how much one is supposed to tip the driver. So I gave him more than enough, and then asked the doorman. He said "50 cents" which I was sure was too little. When I called brian, he said a dollar, or more if they are very nice, which sounded much more reasonable. So much to learn...
Back to the video thing... I am shocked by how preveland vfx [visual (computer generated) effects] are in music videos. I have gotten a chance to see korn's masterpiece, and Will Smith's Miami, and a small handful of some of the other mimiature films which have come out of late. There is a lot of money being sunk into this market. I am hyper-aware of it because this is what Matthew wants to do for a living (and what I sometime think I want to do).
This funeral this morning made me cry, for one of the two sons who had lost his mother was so distraught he could barely speak. The other son, who is my dad's business partner, gave a lovely speech, and mentioned several of the guests by name, including my grandfather. I should preface my next statement by mentioning that I was the youngest person there, and besides the two grandchildren, I was the only person under 50. Anyway, when my dad's partner mentioned my grandfather's name, several of the ladies in the back began twittering about him none-too-quitely. I think they were mostly letting each other know that they hadn't seen him yet, but I was amused by the stir he caused.
I tried calling cousin Brian earlier this evening, but Mr. Popular's line was busy. I, instead, had a lengthy canversation with Matthew, during which he laughed at me heartily, because the only thing I listed twice in yesterday's entry was being naked.
I finished Memoirs of a Geisha this evening, which I have been swallowing whole the past few days. I found the book to be a very enjoyable read, but felt that it ended much to abruptly. It was almost as if the author was saying, "you silly readers have a misconception that geishas are prostitutes, so I will dangle sex in front of you and never give it to you through the entirety of the book."

Hey, look at me!. I feel so stinking cool! There really is nothing else like coming across yourself on someone else's web page. It gives you a little electric jolt, and makes that world wide web just a little bit smaller.9 57 pm edt

I just moved my page on Sam Bug to this server, and gave it a little update. It feels good to talk about him after so long...
