Rosh Hashana (began yesterday at sundown)

I have been a bump on a log all day. I've had all sorts of thoughts brewing in my head, but nothing has really come to fruition. When I got my greatgrandparents' marriage certificate the other day, it had a little bonus on it. Rather than just listing the country of origin, which is standard, I also got a region for my grandfather's mother's birthplace. Galizien, Austria is what the paper said, and I managed to find quite a few links explaining what Galizien aka Galacia really is. It was originally a region in Austria, which later became part of Poland, and is now in the Ukraine. Here are some sites (mostly for my reference):
- a map of Galacia, 1882
- a map of Ukraine, 1993
- Austrian Genealogy - Galicia
- Galacian research
- Galizien German Descendants
- Germany Ancestors Surnames
- Poland FAQ
- Galizien German Descendants
- Galicia Administrative Districts (1906-1914)*

Shall I admit that I'm still in bed? It is Saturday, so I "sort of" have an excuse. I am in a lazy mood. I have two movies to watch before I go make returns tomorrow. I spent a bit of the morning making a list of vital records of which I would like to obtain copies. There are a lot, and unfortunately, I can't get many of them, due to privacy laws, despite being a direct descendent. You can get marriage certificates if they are more than fifty years old, and I think the same amount of time is necessary for deaths. These numbers are only for New York; the other states are much more lenient.8 28 pm edt
I am watching some Indiana Jones and eating som very yummy pasta. I at a ton, and have a total love affair with food, but I am getting used to two meals a day, which is very friendly to my budget. I have Cheerios with soy milk every morning (or afternoon, depending on when I wake up). I brought my favorite brand of soy milk (Vanilla EdenSoy Extra) with me from LA, and I am about to run out, so I will have to go searching for it again.8 57 pm edt
Just because I was feeling sorry for myself, I decided to count, but then it turned out I hadn't needed to count days, because it has been exactly one month since i've had sexer (as I am fond of calling it).9 04 pm edt
Because I am rather bored, I decided to search for the lyrics to Louie Louie, that song that no one knows the words to.I know why I thought of it. I was remembering being on a cruise with my brother [I promise to dig out the date], when my brother and I spent a lot of time requesting songs from the live performer who was there. I was giving him my flirty eyes, which he was enjoying until some large man came in and began handing out $100 bills as tips. After about $400 had been handed over to the singer/guitarist, the large man asked the performer to play some of his own stuff. The performer thought he had died and gone to heaven, and managed to get at lest another $200 before the end of the evening. But I went too far in my story, because I forgot the part where I asked him to play Louie Louie, and he said he would if someone gave him the words, and I remember thinking that I knew I could find them on the 'net.
So, back to my original point:

I have had a major sweets attack the past three evenings, which is tough for me, because there are no sweets in the house. I have been told than when you crave sugar, it means you are defficient in protein, but I find that hard to believe. If you crave sweets it's because they ar so yummy. Anyway, since there is no chocolate readily available, my thoughts drift to the delicious looking sugar coated nuts that vendors sell on the street here. I even saw one cart that was selling sugar coated roasted coconut. I got one little sample, and it was so amazing. I am going to have to stock up on these treats next time I am out and about in the city (which should be Monday, when I go get my passport).
