chopsticks

I could never use chop sticks growing up.   I tried to learn, but to no avail.   Then during my first year of college I forced myself to eat a whole meal -- at my favorite vegetarian Chinese restaurant -- with chop sticks.   I have been a master ever since.   I had dinner with my dad in July and they had chop stick holding instructions on the chopstick wrappers.   I had near perfect form.   I am proud that I was stubborn enough to make myself learn them, and I am glad to no longer have to ask for a fork.

Aurora says that in Thailand they eat with forks.   She finds it funny that in the States, some Thai restaurants offer chop sticks, simply because Americans expect them.   She says that in ones that don't, they laugh when people ask for chop sticks; Aurora says that in Thailand they laugh at the stupid American tourists who ask for chop sticks.   Aurora is about 85% fluent in Thai, and she once tried to write my name in Thai, but forgot how to make the "L".   I had the attempt on the wall of my apartment.
