when I got my driver's license I was 5'4 but I was sure I was still growing, so I listed myself as 5'5. It was with profound embarassment when I renewed my license that I had to admit to myself, and the DMV, that I was really only 5'4

 

I grew up with three grandfathers and one grandmother. My mom's mom died long before I was born, and my dad's mom divorced and remarried. Unfortunately, my grandmother and her husband passed away in the 1990's, he in the early part of the decade, and she a few months before I began this diary. They are both greatly missed.

My mother's father died in January 2001, shortly before his 82nd birthday. The last time I saw him was during my drive across the country. I miss him too and feel the loss of my only link to my mother's side of the family.

My father's father lives in New York, and was kind enough to let me live with him during the year after I graduated from college. He has done such a wonderful job of making an effort to see us as we grew up; my grandfather set a perfect example of how I would like to be for my children's children. I appreciate him for that, and a million other things.
