How to Develop Your Child's Gifts and Talents
During the Elementary YearsObviously, I love to write...

When I was in high school, I co-authored a book with my mother. When I was in college we produced the revised second edition. Please check out How to Develop Your Child's Gifts and Talents During the Elementary Years.

I am a slow reader, which I consider to be a blessing because it means books last longer for me. Besides the book links sprinkled throughout my diary, you can find:

My favorite novel of all time is Catch-22 by Joseph Heller; it captures my sense of humor perfectly. My favorite book to recommend is The Debt to Pleasure by John Lanchester. I am greatly looking forward to reading Lanchester's second novel: Mr Phillips.

If you have plants and live in the US, you should have the plant bible, the Western Garden Book. I have an absurd amount of gardening books, and I will no doubt continue to procure more.

I graduated from college with an honors degree in Film Studies. My favorite genres are action films, thrillers, and documentaries. I adore cinema and try to see as many movies as possible:

After renting The Virgin Suicides (1999), I immediately added it to my list of brilliant films.

My favorite film of all time is Sólo con tu pareja (1991), which I have seen only once, while I was in high school. I would buy this film in a second if it were for sale on VHS or DVD.

My favorite made-for-tv movie is Steven Spielberg's directorial debut Duel (1971). If you've never seen it, you should definitely look into renting it. The movie is fun and lacks Spielberg's later-developed Hollywood flash. I also really loved Bagdad Cafe (1990) for its unexpected strangenesses.

I am one of those people who loves to listen to the same song over and over. I'm not a fan of concerts for music I know, because I am somehow disappointed that they don't sound the same as the recordings, but I love live music that I didn't previously know, such as Groaning Mona.

I most recently purchased The General's Daughter soundtrack, which I am enjoying. When I played it for my boyfriend he told me I have strange taste in music.

For Christmas I got The Virgin Suicides soundtrack from my sister. I have already listened to it dozens of times!

If I had to be stuck on an island with only a dozen CDs, I would currently pick:

I might occasionally miss the Sneaker Pimps' Becoming X and The Girl from Ipanema performed by Stan Getz but I can always sing to myself.

My list of brilliant films is nearing triple digits, but the collection of performances that I would insist on you seeing is quite few in numbers, so be brave and go buy some tickets...

The two best performances I have seen lately were The Vagina Monolouges and Blue Man Group.

Blue Man is truly phenomenal. When I recommended it to my dad he asked, "Would I enjoy it more than a Dylan concert?" and I said that I thought so. Appropriate for all ages, the show is beyond mere description. You will laugh out loud in hysterics and delight. You can visit my entry about or the official site.

Fifty-one percent of the world's population have one, so don't be embarrassed by the name. The Vagina Monologues are funny and powerful. I think you'd have to be ultra-conservative to not enjoy this show thoroughly. You can visit my entry about or the official site.

I love live comedy, and if I could see anyone in person, my first choice would be Anthony Clark. My second choice would be Janeane Garofalo.

I enjoys plays, dance, and opera. Any time people are making art I'm willing to check it out...
