Day 03
14 August 99
Salt Lake City - Laramie, Wyoming
That's right, my mother got a speeding ticket [in Wyoming] -- going 87 in a 75 zone. The most infuriating part had to have been the cop's insistance on calling her ma'am. I amused myself by taking a picture...
We spend the morning with my grandfather and two of my uncles in Salt Lake City and then set out through Wyoming. We wound up in Laramie, where we managed to find a fantastic vegetarian restaurant called Jeffries [2nd and Ivinson Street]. What were the chances?
We stopped for gas along the way at some very off-the-beaten-track place, who's bathroom was clearly designed for an elementary school student. It was my first ever pump-before-you-pay experience...
I feel as though we have been travelling for weeks, and wonder how I will feel in another ten days... We got a light sprinkle on the road, and are delighted it isn't too hot here.
I wanted to go out dancing, and see how Wyoming residents live it up on a Saturday night, but I knew my mother would dissapprove, so I decided to save my fun for next weekend, when we are much closer to the end of our journey. My mom is grumpy that my thesis still needs work, but also delighted that we have landed ourselves in Laramie on the exact weekend of an antique show. She is all excited about going "junkin'" in Wyoming. She said she has a goal of antique shopping in every state.
My mother's quote of the evening involved the idea that students in Laramie [yes, there is a college here, which my mother says accounts for the veggie restaurant] study for a good time. We are staying at the Sunset Inn and then setting sun was gorgeous enough for me to understand how it got its name.
