Day 10
Saturday
21 August 99
Alcoa, Tennessee - Lexington, Kentucky

We hit an antique mall this morning, and I reread my thesis in the car while my mom cleaned the place out.   I did come in at the end to get an idea of what treasures my mother had found, and in taking a quick glance over the place I saw a full-sized flag hanging with a swastica on it.   I went over to get a closer look, and saw the description that a man had pulled it off the wall in Germany.   It was priced at $375.   I really wanted to buy it just to get it off display -- to hide it away somewhere or to burn it.   I found its sale as an odd collectible to be really disturbing.

Next we had a two hour excursion in Knoxville looking for a Kinko's.   After arriving at our copy haven, my disk drive ceased to function, so I had to go through some nonsense during which I uploaded my thesis to one of my servers and then downloaded it onto one of their machines via their very slow internet connection.   The woman who helped me was very nice.   The upshot of all of this is that my honors thesis is in the mail, and although I can keep taking pictures, I can't modify or upload them unless my disk drive kicks back into action, which is doubtful, judging by the noise it makes when it swallows a disk.

mmmmmmmmmmmmatthew We pressed on to Lexington (which I previously wrote as Louisville) and are staying in a lovely suite with a jucuzzi in the bathtub that makes me wish that Matthew was here.

We went to Appleby's for dinner, and had to wait to be seated.   One of the waitresses sat down and began to talk to us.   She was so excited that it was her last night and she had found a job in her field, which was photography.   I wished her well.

After dinner I actually filled up the tub and enjoyed a good steamy soak.   My man would have really enjoyed that.   I spent a good portion on the time racking my brain for some sort of sceme that would involve getting him to Kentucky (and just for that bath!).   I also thought about the supposed drought, and how many gallons get dumped into each of those jucuzzis in every one of those rooms.   The heat almost made me pass out, so I finished off with a cooling shower.
